Intensive course FAQs
No — the price covers your lessons. Since 12 May 2026, DVSA rules say only the learner can book their own driving test, so be wary of anyone "selling" test slots — they're breaking the rules. You book yours yourself on GOV.UK whenever you're ready.
You need a theory pass before you can book your practical test, so ideally yes — get your theory passed (or booked) before the course starts. You can absolutely start driving with us before your theory, and we'll point you to the best free apps to prepare.
Honest answer: it depends on you. Driving every day means the hours work much harder than weekly lessons, and many learners get to test standard inside the course. Your instructor gives you an honest progress check every few days — and if you need a few extra hours at the end, you can top up at our standard lesson rates. No pressure, no surprises.
Probably not — that's exactly what Halfway to Hero is for. If you've had lessons in the past, drive on a foreign licence, or failed a test and want a fast comeback, 15 hours of daily driving is usually enough to sharpen you up to test standard. Manual (£1,000) gives you a licence for any car. Automatic (£1,100) has no clutch or gears, so there's less to learn — which suits an intensive course brilliantly, especially for nervous drivers. Not sure? Read about automatic lessons or just ask us on a quick call.
The standard course is 2 hours a day for 15 days, and daily driving is honestly where the magic is. But life happens — if you need the odd rest day, we'll plan the course around it. Tell us your dates and we'll make it work.
Test dates depend on DVSA availability at your local test centre. Many learners book their test on GOV.UK around the time they book the course so the two line up — and your instructor will always give you an honest steer on whether you'll be ready for the date you're holding.
