Intensive course FAQs
No — and be careful of anyone who says otherwise. Since 12 May 2026, DVSA rules say only the learner can book their own driving test, so companies "selling" tests are breaking the rules. What we do instead: walk you through booking your own test step by step, and show you how to check for earlier cancellation slots so you can take your test as soon as you're ready.
You need a theory pass before you can book your practical test, so ideally yes — get your theory passed (or booked) before the course starts. You can absolutely start driving with us before your theory, and we'll point you to the best free apps to prepare.
Honest answer: it depends on you. Driving every day means the hours work much harder than weekly lessons, and many learners get to test standard inside the course. Your instructor gives you an honest progress check every few days — and if you need a few extra hours at the end, you can top up at our standard lesson rates. No pressure, no surprises.
Probably not — that's exactly what Halfway to Hero is for. If you've had lessons in the past, drive on a foreign licence, or failed a test and want a fast comeback, 15 hours of daily driving is usually enough to sharpen you up to test standard.
