Learning to drive in Burnage

What learning to drive in Burnage is actually like

Burnage is a favourite of ours for learners. The residential streets off Burnage Lane and Green End Road are calm enough for your first lessons, and then you have Kingsway (A34) — a proper dual carriageway with big signalised junctions — right on your doorstep for building speed, lane discipline and confidence.

Add Fog Lane, Mauldeth Road, Parrs Wood and the M60 slip roads at Cheadle and you’ve covered almost everything the test can throw at you without leaving M19 and M20. Our instructors teach in Burnage and Didsbury every week.

Your test will most likely be at West Didsbury, a few minutes away, with Bredbury (Stockport) and Sale as alternatives. You’ll have driven the routes many times before the day.

Burnage FAQs

Questions, answered

Will I get dual-carriageway practice in Burnage?

Yes — Kingsway is right there, and it’s ideal: fast enough to build confidence, with proper junctions and lane changes. We’ll bring it in as soon as you’re ready.

Which test centre do Burnage learners use?

Usually West Didsbury, which is a few minutes away. Bredbury and Sale are close enough to be options if you want a different date.

Do you pick me up from home?

Yes — door-to-door pick-up and drop-off from home, work, college or halls, anywhere in our covered areas. Lessons start and finish at your door.

Manual or automatic — which should I choose?

We teach both. Manual gives you a licence for any car; automatic is often quicker and calmer to learn, especially if you’re nervous. Not sure? We’ll talk it through on a quick call — no pressure either way.

How many lessons will I need?

Everyone’s different. Complete beginners typically need somewhere around 30–40 hours with an instructor; if you’ve driven before it can be far fewer. After your first lesson or two we’ll give you an honest estimate and a plan.

How much are lessons, and can I block-book?

Pay-as-you-go lessons are 1½ hours (£55) or 2 hours (£70 manual / £72 automatic). Block-book 10 hours (£330 manual / £350 auto) or 20 hours (£650 manual / £680 auto) and the hourly rate drops to as little as £32.50. Intensive courses are priced separately.
