Learning to drive in Whalley Range
Whalley Range is one of the calmest places in inner South Manchester to start driving. The wide avenues off College Road and around Alexandra Park are perfect for getting used to the car, steering and junctions without traffic breathing down your neck.
When you’re ready we step it up: Withington Road and Upper Chorlton Road with their buses and parked cars, the Brooks Bar junction, Wilbraham Road towards Chorlton, and Princess Road for faster dual-carriageway driving. Our instructors are round here every week — several of our learners’ passes come from M16.
The West Didsbury test centre is a short drive down Princess Road, so you’ll be practising its routes regularly. Sale and Cheetham Hill are the alternatives if you want an earlier date.

One of the best — the wide, quiet avenues are ideal for your first hours. We build up to the busier roads only when you feel ready.

Yes — door-to-door pick-up and drop-off from home, work, college or halls, anywhere in our covered areas. Lessons start and finish at your door.
We teach both. Manual gives you a licence for any car; automatic is often quicker and calmer to learn, especially if you’re nervous. Not sure? We’ll talk it through on a quick call — no pressure either way.
Everyone’s different. Complete beginners typically need somewhere around 30–40 hours with an instructor; if you’ve driven before it can be far fewer. After your first lesson or two we’ll give you an honest estimate and a plan.
Pay-as-you-go lessons are 1½ hours (£55) or 2 hours (£70 manual / £72 automatic). Block-book 10 hours (£330 manual / £350 auto) or 20 hours (£650 manual / £680 auto) and the hourly rate drops to as little as £32.50. Intensive courses are priced separately.
